Deep Drawn Stamping Parts

Deep-drawn stamped parts are widely used in products such as kitchenware, energy storage housings, automotive components, and various types of containers. Buyers often confuse them with standard bent stamped parts, yet the underlying forming principles differ significantly. While standard stamping typically involves operations like punching, bending, and simple forming, deep drawing (or deep-draw stamping) utilizes a press equipped with specialized deep-drawing dies to force a flat sheet-metal blank into the die cavity; this induces plastic flow in the material, directly forming hollow cylindrical, box-like, or irregularly shaped components. Common raw materials include cold-rolled steel, galvanized sheet, stainless steel, aluminum alloys, and copper; deep drawing serves as a crucial industrial method for manufacturing seamless housings.

The deep-drawing process presents unique challenges; it is not simply a matter of pressing the sheet metal into shape. Once the tooling is successfully debugged, continuous mass production becomes feasible, yielding finished parts that are seamless and structurally integral, while also offering significant cost advantages at scale. However, it is important to acknowledge that developing deep-drawing dies is more complex and costly than standard stamping tooling. Consequently, for smaller order volumes, the per-unit cost increases; it is best to clarify this point with overseas clients to avoid any misalignment of expectations later on.

CAE forming simulation analysis has become an indispensable core component of the mold design and process planning stages. Through digital simulation, engineers can anticipate stress distribution, springback tendencies, and thinning risks during the drawing process, enabling the optimization of parameters such as fillet radii, clearances, and blank holder forces. For parts with high depth-to-diameter ratios or complex geometries, multi-stage progressive drawing processes are often required, interspersed with annealing treatments to eliminate work hardening and restore material plasticity. Such precise control over the process sequence is crucial for ensuring product consistency and high yield rates.

Furthermore, the requirements for lubrication systems and surface treatments in deep-drawing operations cannot be overlooked. High-quality lubrication not only effectively reduces the coefficient of friction between the die and the sheet metal-thereby preventing scratching and die sticking-but also improves material flow to some extent. Regarding post-processing, steps such as deburring, cleaning, rust prevention, and surface coating must be tailored to the part's final application to ensure reliability during assembly and use.

Material selection plays a critical role in the success of deep-drawn products; only materials with good plasticity are suitable for this process. Cold-rolled steel offers excellent plasticity, making it ideal for various types of housings and ensuring consistent results for subsequent painting or powder coating. Stainless steel provides superior corrosion resistance and is commonly used for vessels and waterproof housings; however, it presents high forming resistance and a greater risk of wrinkling or cracking, requiring precise control over tooling and lubrication. Aluminum alloy is lightweight, making it suitable for weight-sensitive housings, though its limited plasticity makes forming very deep structures difficult. Copper offers excellent ductility and is frequently used for battery and electrical component housings. Following the deep-drawing process, we provide a full range of secondary operations-including trimming, punching, tapping, deburring, welding, plating, and coating-to deliver either semi-finished parts or fully finished products ready for immediate assembly and use.
